Rachael Collins
PhD., M.Ed., RCT-C., C.C.C.

Registered Counselling Therapist,
Canadian Certified Counsellor

Qualifications

Before becoming a trauma therapist, I spent 10 years as a professor of criminology in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My focus was on behavioural criminology and abnormal psychology.

I have over 12 years of experience working with personality disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, and trauma, with a specialized focus on how these psychological landscapes contribute to violent behavior in mass shooters.

In addition, I spent many years teaching crime scene analysis and offender behavioral profiling.

Profile Information

After my decision to leave academics, I chose to apply my background in trauma and PTSD to support frontline workers and first responders – helping them navigate the complex and often overwhelming nature of trauma. My current scope of practice includes individual and couples counselling for adults who are first responders, frontline workers, military, or veterans.

I use a mixed methods approach that includes trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), solutions focused approaches, and mindfulness-based techniques. I specialize in treating issues related to PTSD, complex PTSD (C-PTSD), depression, anxiety and panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), violence-related trauma, and grief and loss.

I offer both in-person and online sessions for clients in Winnipeg, and online sessions for clients in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
